Spinal Cord Injury Newfoundland and Labrador was in attendance at the October 2018 Working 2 Walk Science and Advocacy Symposium and the North American Spinal Cord Injury Symposium in Richmond, British Columbia.
Dion Regular, Peer Support Specialist for Spinal Cord Injury Newfoundland and Labrador shared this from his experience:
“In Oct of 2018 I had the great opportunity to visit Vancouver BC to attend the Working To Walk 2018 Science and Advocacy Symposium and the North American Spinal Cord Injury Symposium. The great thing about these conferences is the chance to build advocacy, empowerment, and unity towards finding cures for paralysis. It was great to get to talk one on one and also in a group setting with scientists, doctors, rehab specialists, and other organizations from across North America to discuss what they are doing and how things are going in other areas. For me, it is always exciting to hear about new technologies that are available to help improve the lives of individuals living with paralysis. For someone living with a spinal cord injury myself, I am always interested in hearing the up to date news on stem cells and the clinical trials that are currently taking place. We had many of our members who were awaiting my return home from my trip to so they could also hear about the stem cell research and the clinical trials that are taking place that they may qualify for. This trip provided me with great information and contacts that will be a help in my job.”
