On June 30th, 2013 Spinal Cord Injury Newfoundland and Labrador’s Career and Employment Disability Case Management Program underwent some drastic changes that unfortunately resulted in the closure of four of our regional Career and Employment Disability Case Management Centers that assisted individuals who were EI Eligible.
Spinal Cord Injury Newfoundland and Labrador’s Career and Employment program was funded solely by the Department of Advanced Education and Skills through Employment Assistance Services contracts. On March 1st, 2013 Spinal Cord Injury Newfoundland and Labrador was notified that the provincial government would no longer be offering these contracts to third party providers and the services performed at these offices for EI Eligible clients would now be offered through Advanced Education and Skills Career Work Centers in their areas. As a result of the Department of Advanced Education and Skill’s shift in focus, Spinal Cord Injury Newfoundland and Labrador closed our Career and Employment Disability Case Management Centers in Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Marystown and Corner Brook.
Spinal Cord Injury Newfoundland and Labrador’s Career and Employment Disability Case Management Centers that provide service for Non EI Eligible clients in St. John’s, Bay Roberts, St. Anthony and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, which is funded by the Department of Advanced Education and Skills under the Community Partnership Fund, were not affected as a result of these changes.
