On Friday December 14th, 2012 Spinal Cord Injury Newfoundland and Labrador presented a $5,000 Quality of Life Grant to the Avalon Sledge Hockey Association to support their upcoming trip to the London Blizzard’s Invitational Sledge Hockey Tournament in London, Ontario January 25th to 27th. This is the 4th year Spinal Cord Injury Newfoundland and Labrador has provided a sponsorship to the Avalon Sledge Hockey Association to assist them with their goal of developing the sport of Sledge Hockey on the Avalon Peninsula and further throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
Team sports allow persons with disabilities to practice and play an enjoyable physical activity while providing an opportunity to meet and develop relationships with other individuals with similar disabilities and experiences. Sports and recreation are known to improve the health of an individual with a disability as well as achieve a sense of wellbeing, integration and community participation.
The funds for the Quality of Life Grant program are raised by the Canadian Paraplegic Association NL Foundation.
Good Luck to the Avalon Sledge Hockey Association on their 2012-2013 campaign!
